ASH, ZELLA E. (PENCE) [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Thurs.,12 Mar 1970] Funeral services for Mrs. Zella E. Ash, of Prospect, who died Tuesday in a local hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Conger-Morris downtown chapel. The Rev. Katharine Bosworth of the Unity Church of Medford will officiate. Committal will be in the Trail Cemetery with Conger-Morris Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Ash was born on Elk Creek at Trail on June 25, 1905, a daughter of Dave PENCE and Elsie Heckathorne PENCE. Her father at the age of 2 came to Southern Oregon from Illinois with his parents, the late William and Hester PENCE. Her mother's parents, Jeremiah and Anna Heckathorne, came to Southern Oregon in 1854 from Indiana and her mother was born here at Brownsboro. On Dec. 20, 1941, in Yreka [Calif.], Mrs. Ash married Lowell W. Ash, who survives. Survivors besides her husband include a brother, Lincoln PENCE, Eagle Point; four sisters, Mrs. Ed (Ola) Houstin, Shady Cove; Mrs. Roy (Tressie) Vaughn, Trail; Mrs. Fred (Hazel) McPherson, Central Point, and Mrs. Vernon (Alberta) Chamberlain, White City. Pallbearers will include Vic Chapman, Bud Chandler, Reed Charley, Steve Larson and Robert Larson. [6B2363]

HARDMAN, HATTIE (PENCE) [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Sun., 22 Jan 1933] HATTIE HARDMAN CALLED TO REST -- Hattie May Hardman, wife of L. H. Hardman of the Table Rock district, passed away at the home of her mother, Mrs. Ollie PENCE of 365 South Central at 4:15 p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Hardman was born at Eagle Point Nov. 23, 1892, aged 40 years, 1 month, 26 days. Since her marriage to Mr. Hardman, they have resided at Table Rock. Besides her husband and mother, she leaves three children, Gretta, Neil and Phylis. Also two children by a former marriage, Roy and Earl Cameron. Also one brother, R. L. PENCE of Riverside, Calif. Mrs. Hardman was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Conger Funeral parlors upon definite word as to the arrival of her brother. TRAIL NOTES [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Fri., 27 Jan 1933] Mr. and Mrs. Ed PENCE and Wilbur Ragsdale attended the funeral of Mrs. Hattie Hardman in Medford Thursday. Mrs. Hardman was a niece of Mr. PENCE.

TABLE ROCK NOTES [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Fri., 27 Jan 1933] Residents of this community were deeply shocked at learning of the death of Mrs. Hattie Hardman Saturday. Mrs. Hardman, who was a devoted mother, leaves five small children and a husband to mourn her loss. Hattie, as she was known by most of her neighbors, had been a resident of this district for 16 years and before her family cares became too numerous took an active part in community affairs.

PENCE, ADELINE ROSE (THERRIAULT) McALLISTER [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Wed., 14 Apr 1993] The funeral for Adeline Rose McAllister Pence will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Medford Chapel. The Rev. Roy Antunez of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mrs. Pence, 88, of Jacksonville, died Saturday (April 10, 1993). Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society [address deleted]. She was born Adeline Rose Therriault on May 12, 1904, in Missoula, Mont. She moved to Oregon in 1941 and to the Applegate in 1951. On Nov. 16, 1978, in Grant’s Pass, she married Paul Pence, who died in 1990. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Schleigh, Baltimore, Med.; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Her first husband, Harry McAllister, died in November 1968. Friends may call from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Conger-Morris Medford. [6B2384]

PENCE, ALYCE F. (Mrs.) [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Thurs. 26 Mar 1964] Funeral services for Mrs. Alyce F. PENCE, 68, of 511 Mary St., Medford, who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel in the Trees Mortuary, Siskiyou Memorial Park. Pastor William Walsh of the Church of the Brethren of Medford will officiate. Private interment will follow in Siskiyou Memorial Park. Mrs. PENCE was born July 15, 1905, in Laclede, Ida. She was baptized in the United Brethren Church, Concordia, Kan., in 1913. On Sept. 11, 1940, in Denver, Colo., she was married to Frank L. (Roy) PENCE, who survives. Mr. and Mrs. PENCE had been residents of Oregon, and of this community, since 1949, and owned and operated Medford Rug Factory and Cleaners since that time. Survivors besides her husband include two sons, Loren J. PENCE, Vancouver, Wash., and LeRoy F. PENCE, Denver Colo.; one daughter, Violet Mae Bailey, Cupertino, Calif., three sisters, Gladys PENCE, Phoenix, Ariz., Inez Jackson, Atchison, Kan., and Beulah Pierce, Greenville, Miss. PENCE, CALVIN MONROE [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Mon., 19 Mar 1919] Calvin Monroe Pence, died at the family home in Central Point at 8:30 a.m., May 18, 1919 at the age of 60 years, five months and nine days. He came to Jackson county 43 years ago and made his home on a ranch at Elk Creek until six years ago when he moved to Central Point and has made his home at that place until the time of death. Calvin Monroe Pence was married to Ollie Eaton at Eagle Point, on Dec. 18, 1893, who survives him. He leaves besides the wife, two sons and one daughter, Ralph Lawrence and Calvin Earl, both of Central Point, and Hattie May Cameron of Table Rock. The funeral services were held at the grave in the Central Point cemetery this afternoon at 2 p.m., Rev. Hohenshuh officiating. [6B231]

PENCE, CHARLES A. [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Fri. 18 Jan 1963] Funeral services for Charles PENCE, 86, of 2670 Old Military Rd., who died Thursday, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, in Conger-Morris downtown chapel. The Rev. William Wash of the Church of the Brethren will officiate. Committal will be in Granite Hill cemetery, Grant's Pass. Mr. PENCE, a son of Jefferson and Minerva Bryan PENCE, was born Sept. 3, 1876, in Illinois. When he was young, he moved with his parents to Myrtle Creek, Ore., and later to Williams Creek, where he spent the early years of his life. He spent many years working in mines and lumber camps in California. During the early gold-rush years, he spent some time mining in Alaska. In later years he worked with the Oregon state highway maintenance crew. From 1927 he made his home at Williams until about six years ago, when he moved to Medford, where he resided until his death. Survivors include his brother, Ray A. PENCE, and one sister, Mrs. O. O. Morton, both of Medford, and several nieces and nephews. Casket bearers will include Robert J. Morton, Ray A. Morton, Charles F. Shinn, Kenneth L. Myers, Carrol R. Hussey and Phillip Hussey. [6B332]

PENCE, CHARLES H. [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Fri., 7 Aug 1970] Los Angeles, California -- Charles H. PENCE, 76, 1525 Melba Court, Mountain View, Calif., and former resident in the Rogue Valley, died Friday, June 31 [sic; should be July, per California Death Index], in Los Altos. Mr. PENCE was a native of Missouri, and had lived in the Los Altos area for ten years. He was a member of the Machinists Local No. 1546 of Oakland, and a union representative of the International Association of Machinists. Survivors include his wife, Veva M. PENCE, Mountain View, and one sister, Mrs. Ruby Babcock, San Leandro, Calif. Services were held Tuesday at the Los Altos Chapel of Spangler Mortuaries. Inurnment was at Alta Mesa Memorial Park, Palo Alto. [RB11321]

PENCE, DAVID WILLIAM [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Fri, 22 Nov 1957] Funeral services for David William PENCE, 83, of 715 Cedar st., Medford, who died Wednesday, will be held at the Perl funeral home Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. D. E. Millard will officiate. Interment will be in the Trail cemetery. Mr. PENCE was born in Springfield, Ill., Sept. 29, 1874, and was a retired farmer and a resident of this community for the past 81 years. He moved to his Elk Creek farm in 1895 and lived there until 1942 at which time he moved to Eagle Point. He later moved to Medford. He was married to Elsie Heckathorn of Brownsboro in July, 1895. She preceded him in death in June, 1949. Mr. PENCE was a member of the Free Methodist church of Trail and was baptized in 1918. On Aug 11, 1951, he was married to Jane Bedingfield, who survives. Other survivors include five daughters and one son by his first marriage, Mrs. Viola Houston, Shady Cove; Mrs. Tressie Vaughn, Trail; Mrs. Zella Ash, Prospect; Mrs. Hazel McPherson, Medford; Mrs. Alberta Chamberlain, Shady Cove; and Lincoln PENCE, Eagle Point; two brothers, Ed PENCE, Central Point, and Minnus PENCE, Central Point; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by six step-children, Alfred Bedingfield, Prospect; Leroy Bedingfield, Eagle Point; Mrs. Mary Hamilton, Medford; Clyde Bedingfield, Medford; and Mrs. Ruth Sinclair, Eagle Point; and Mrs. Delores Dunkin, Salem, and eleven step-grandchildren. PENCE, DOROTHY DALPHA (HOYT) [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Mon., 10 Oct 1977] The funeral for Dorothy Dalpha Pence, 67, of 33 Willamette Ave., Medford, who died Saturday, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Conger-Morris Downtown Chapel, Medford. Pastor David Croy of the First Baptist Church, Medford, will officiate. Private interment will be held in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. Mrs. Pence was born Aug. 7, 1910, in Ponca, Neb. On July 24, 1933, in Eugene, she married Ray Pence, who survives. Mrs. Pence was a member of the First Baptist Church, Medford, and had lived in the Rogue Valley for 35 years. Survivors besides her husband, Ray, include one son, Cecil R. Pence, Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Joan M. Goodin, Medford; Carole R. Keagbine, Salem; and Rosalie S. Banta, Boise, Idaho; five brothers, Adelbert Hoyt and Wesley Hoyt, both Oregon City; Harold Hoyt, Milwaukie; Duane Hoyt, Eugene’ and Kenneth Hoyt, Libby, Mont.; one sister, Elenora Schilling, Kalispell, Mont., and eight grandchildren. PENCE, EARMAN HOWARD [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Thurs., 14 Sep 1972] Private cremation services for Earman Howard Pence, 58, Happy Camp, Calif., who died Tuesday, were held Wednesday at Siskiyou Memorial Crematorium. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Siskiyou Funeral Service directors of Chapel in the Trees Mortuary. Mr. Pence was born June 24, 1914, at Hornbrook, Calif. On June 27, 1942, at Sacramento, Calif., he married Frances Boehm, who survives. He was a veteran of World War 2. Mr. Pence was a retired fire prevention technician with the Forest Service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 530, Happy Camp, Calif., and of the Lion’s Club, Happy Camp. Survivors, besides his wife, include one son, Earman Allen Pence, Happy Camp; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Knight, McCall, Idaho, and Mrs. Donna Gould, Happy Camp; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Walker, Happy Camp, and Mrs. Lucille Nisson, Pasadena, Calif., and two grandchildren. It is a request of the family that friends who wish may make a donation in his memory to the Happy Camp Volunteer Firemen Ambulance Fund, Happy Camp. [?]

PENCE, (HENRY) EDWARD [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Thurs., 23 Apr 1959] Edward Pence, 88, of 670 Cedar st., Central Point, died at home yesterday. He was born in Springfield, Ill., March 6, 1871, and has lived in this area for 15 years. He was a member of the Unity Church of Christianity of Medford. Survivors include his wife, Emma; one son, Herman F. Pence, Klamath Falls; one grandson, Herman F. Pence Jr., Medford; one granddaughter, Mrs. Anita Lucille Book, Klamath Falls, and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Perl Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. D. E. PENCE, ELSIE (HECKATHORNE) [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Mon., 13 Jun 1949] Mrs. Elsie M. Pence, route 1, Eagle Point, passed away at a local hospital Sunday. She was a native of Jackson county, having been born at Brownsboro on February 22, 1873 and was aged 76 years. She was a member of the Free Methodist church. Surviving are her husband, David of Eagle Point; five daughters, Mrs. Dora Traylor, Drain, Ore.; Mrs. Ollie Houston, Shady Cove; Mrs. Tressie Vaughn, Trail; Mrs. Zella Ash, Prospect; Mrs. Hazel McPherson, Medford, and Mrs. Alberta Chamberlain, Shady Cove; one son, Lincoln, Eagle Point; five grandsons and two granddaughters, two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. PENCE, HERMAN FRANKLIN (BUD), JR. [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Thurs., 19 Apr 1979] The memorial service for Herman "Bud" PENCE, Jr., 56, of 38 N. Oakdale Ave., Medford, who died Wednesday, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Perl Funeral Home. The Rev. Warren P. Frank, St. Mark's Episcopal Church, will officiate. Private inurnment will follow in the Veterans Administration National [Cemetery], Eagle Point. Mr. PENCE, the son of Herman F. and Ruth Sweet PENCE, was born April 24, 1922. During World War 2 he served in the U. S. Navy, as a hospital corpsman. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Medford. He is survived by his parents, Herman and Ruth PENCE, Klamath Falls; one sister, Mrs. Eugene (Anita) Book, Klamath Falls; one niece and one nephew.

PENCE, FLOYD GLENN [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Sun., 2 Oct 1955] Man Injured -- Floyd PENCE, 45, of Rt 1, Jacksonville, was injured in an automobile accident at Pine st. and Highway 99 in Central Point at about 8:50 p.m. Saturday, according to Medford Ambulance attendants. He received head injuries when the car he was driving collided with a vehicle driven by George Bevel, Merrill, Ore. PENCE was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital by the ambulance service. His wife received minor injuries in the mishap.

PENCE, FLOYD GLENN [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Thurs., 6 Oct 1955] Floyd PENCE Dies Of Wreck Injuries -- Floyd PENCE, 45, Rt. 1, Jacksonville, died last night as the result of injuries received late Saturday evening in an automobile accident at Central Point. Funeral arrangements are pending at Conger-Morris Funeral Home. He was born at Trail and in addition to his wife, Capitola, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Minnus PENCE, Trail; [brothers] Frank PENCE, Eureka, Calif.; Paul PENCE and Noel PENCE, both of Medford; and three sisters, Mrs. Verne McKenzie, Trail; Mrs. LaDale Herrmann, Medford; and Mrs. Harold Kilburn, Jacksonville.

PENCE, FLOYD GLENN [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Fri., 7 Oct 1955] Funeral services for Floyd G. PENCE, 44, who died Wednesday, will be held in Conger-Morris chapel Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. N. K. Tully officiating. Committal will be in Jacksonville cemetery. The deceased was born in Trail on April 7, 1911. On Aug. 27, 1936, in Grant's Pass, he was married to Capitola Swinden, who survives. He enlisted in the army on March 10, 1942, serving overseas for about a year and a half. He was discharged from the 554th Army Air Force Base Unit on Nov. 5, 1945. Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Minnus F. PENCE, Jacksonville; four brothers, Noel and Paul, Medford; Harold, Trail, and Frank, Eureka [California]; and three sisters, Mrs. Geneva A. McKenzie, Trail; Mrs. Gertrude A. Herrmann, Medford; and Mrs. Mary H. Kilburn, Jacksonville. [6B2482]

PENCE, GEORGE H. [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, 4 Jan (year illegible, but he died 1 Jan 1971)] Funeral services for George Henry PENCE, 81, of 604 Berrydale Ave., who died Friday, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Hillcrest Chapel on North Phoenix Road. The Rev. William H. Collier will officiate. Committal will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park on North Phoenix Road with Conger-Morris Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. Mr. PENCE was born May 5, 1889, in Kearney, Neb., a son of the late William Henry and Dora M. PENCE, and had lived in Southern Oregon for the past 28 years. From 1950 to 1963, he owned and operated PENCE Janitor Service. On Sept. 28, 1910, in Nelson, Neb., he married Faye E. Norris, who survives. Survivors besides his wife include three sons, Ray H. PENCE, Medford; George J. PENCE, Walla Walla, Wash.; and Arnold G. PENCE, Eagle Point; one daughter, Mrs. John (Margaret) Thompson, Boise, Idaho; one sister, Mrs. Lillie Taylor, Olympia, Wash.; two brothers, Roy PENCE, Cupertino, Calif. and Cecil R. PENCE, HAROLD BROOK [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, 12 Jan 1994] The memorial service for Harold Brook PENCE will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Jacksonville Cemetery. Pastor Bob Hedenstrom of Faith Bible Center, Medford, will officiate. Mr. PENCE, 84, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 10, 1994). He was born March 23, 1909, in Trail, a son of Minnus F. and Osa PENCE. He was a retired Cat skinner and logger, having worked for Oscar Hansen. He had served in the Oregon National Guard. Mr. PENCE enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading. Survivors include a daughter, Janice J. Jones, Medford; three sisters, Geneva McKenzie, Medford; Mary Kilborn, Gold Hill; and Gertrude Herrmann, Eagle Point; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Delores Schell, and four brothers, Floyd PENCE, Frank PENCE, Paul PENCE, and Noel PENCE, preceded him in death. Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford, handled the arrangements. PENCE, HESTER (ENOCH) [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Sun., 5 Jan 1936] Hester PENCE, 95, County Resident 60 Years, Called -- Hester PENCE, one of the oldest pioneer residents of Jackson county passed away at the home of Munnus [sic] PENCE, her youngest son, after a short illness of one week at Jacksonville, Oregon, at the age of 95 years and 8 months. She was born near Springfield, Ohio, May 3, 1840, and has been a resident of Jackson county for 60 years. Hester Enoch was united in marriage to William PENCE in December 1858 at Pekin, Illinois. Her husband preceded her in death in 1907. Eight children were born to this union, being survived by Edward and Minnus PENCE of Jacksonville, Ore., David PENCE of Trail, Ore., Mrs. Mary McKee of Prairie City, Ore., Mrs. Lottie McKee of Applegate, Ore., Mrs. Janie Geary, Trail, Ore., also thirty-four grandchildren and forty-five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. The family came to Redding, Cal., in emigrant train in 1876, and the same year came to Jackson county by wagon train, settling in the Applegate district. Funeral services will be held at the Perl Funeral Home Monday morning at 11 o'clock, with Rev. D. E. Millard officiating. Interment will take place in the Trail cemetery. [6B23s]

PENCE, JANE (_____) BEDINGFIELD [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Mon., 11 Jan 1971] Funeral services for Mrs. Jane Bedingfield PENCE, 83, of 2581 Jacksonville Highway, who died Saturday, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Conger-Morris downtown chapel. The Rev. Roy Powell of the Pentecostal Church of God will officiate. Committal will be in the Central Point IOOF cemetery. Mrs. PENCE was born April 24, 1887, in Kentucky. She lived most of her life in Oregon and in and around Medford for the past 47 years. On Feb. 21, 1905, in Enterprise, Ore., she married John Bedingfield, who preceded her in death in 1942. On Aug. 11, 1951, in Eagle Point, she married Dave PENCE, who preceded her in death. Two sons also preceded her in death, Olaf Bedingfield, in 1927, and Laurel Bedingfield, in World War 2. Survivors include three sons, Alfred Bedingfield, Prospect; LeRoy Bedingfield, Eagle Point; Clyde Bedingfield, Central Point; three daughters, Mrs. Deloris Dunkin, Salem; Mrs. Ruth Sinclair, Eagle Point; Mrs. Marion Hamilton, Medford; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. PENCE, LIDA [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Wed., 6 Nov 1948] Lida PENCE of Williams, Ore., passed away at the home of her sister, Sadie PENCE, 20 West Jackson Street, Medford, Tuesday afternoon about three o'clock. Mrs. [sic] PENCE was 60 years old. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Stanley Keller of the Medford Church of the Brethren at Hull and Hull Funeral home in Grant's Pass Thursday, Nov. 7, at 1:30 p.m. [6B335]

PENCE, LINCOLN HOMER [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Wed., 1 Feb 1984] The memorial service for Lincoln Homer PENCE, 72, of Eagle Point, who died Friday, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 434 Oak Street, Central Point, with Larry Frick officiating. Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. PENCE was born Nov. 11, 1911, in Elk Creek. On Aug. 14, 1937, in Medford, he married the former Vida Sinclair, who survives. They moved to Eagle Point 46 years ago. He was a self-employed woodcutter. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, Eagle Point congregation. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sisters. One sister preceded him in death. [6B2365]

PENCE, LINCOLN HOMER [Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Thurs., 2 Feb 1984] The memorla service for Lincoln Homer PENCE, 72, of Eagle Point, who died Friday, will be at 2 p .m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 434 Oak St., Central Point, with Larry Frick officiating. Committal will be in Trail cemetery, Trail. Mr. PENCE was born July 20, 1880, in Jacksonville, and married Osa Middlebusher Sept. 3, 1905, in Trail. Mr. PENCE had spent his entire life in the Jacksonville area. Mr. PENCE, 83, of Medford, died Tuesday (July 12, 1994) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. He was born April 3, 1911, in Scandia, Kan. He graduated from Lincoln, Neb., High School. On July 24, 1933, at Eugene, he married Dorothy Hoyt, who died in 1977. They moved to the Rogue Valley from Eugene 53 years ago. Mr. PENCE owned and operated Medford Accounting Service for 40 years. He was a life member of the Medford Elks, Eagles and Moose lodges. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, coin collecting and traveling. Survivors include three daughters, Joan M. PENCE, 32, of 1691 Parker St., died shortly after 5 a.m. today after choking on a piece of meat. PENCE was pronounced dead at the Ashland Community Hospital emergency room, a hospital spokesperson said.
