Nighthawk Maintenance Info &
Tips
This is one place where I am almost totally dependant on your
inputs. It will be as good and in depth as you want it to be (or
until I run out of server space). Send me what you know. Any year or
model Nighthawk. I'm sure it will be useful to somebody eventually.
Initially, the Maintenance & Tips section will be divided into
seperate areas which cover information common to all models of
Nighthawks, and seperate sections which have "model specific"
information. It's a little sparse right now, but I'm sure it will
grow. I will grab info from whatever source is available. I have
recently started combing the rec.motorcycles & ba. motorcycles
newsgroups for Nighthawk information, and will post any questions
& answers that look good. Some of you may recognize your own
questions. Please pass on your maintenance experiences and tips.
- NEW!! -Nighthawk
Owner needs HELP!-
In this section I will post
requests for maintenance help from your fellow Nighthawk owners.
If you are "wrench Jedi", read them and help them out! If you get
some help from a fellow owner, pass it on to me, and I will post
the problem and the fix for the benefit of all!
- General & Common
Info- Information that is common to all Nighthawks, such
as chains, tires, oil, etc.
- 250cc Nighthawks-
Sure, it's the littlest bird, but it's not just a MSF machine.
Many people own them. Send in your tips.
- 450cc Nighthawks-
Produced in 82, 83, 85, and 86, this was a popular model.
There's still lots of these little guys on the road. Surely some
of you riders or ex-owners have some good info to share?
- 550cc Nighthawk-
Probably the least produced and sold of the Nighthawk series.
- 650cc Nighthawk-The
650 had a long 5 year production run, and was known as a very
reliable, well made machine.
- 80's
750's-Produced in 82 & 83 model year only (in the
U.S).
- 700S & 750S
Nighthawks- The Nighthawk 700S & 750S series, produced
from 84 to 86.
- New 750cc models-
Reintroduced in 1991, they're still being made.
If you plan on doing your own maintenance, there are some books
you should get. A good basic beginner's book is "Motorcycle Owner's
Manual, by Hugo Wilson, published by DK, ISBN # 0-7984-1615-8. It's
only $9.95
Another good book is the Honda Common Service Manual. It covers
all maintenance items which are common to all Honda Motorcycles. It's
just as useful as the Shop Manual, and you're really better off
having both. Unfortunately, you're going to have to pay around $80.00
if you want both books.
I'm sure there are others, but I don't have time to research
them all. I'm just telling you what I've personally seen and read.
