It doesn't matter what bike you have, with the exception of
your brain, this is the most important safety feature. Keep your
brake system in good shape. Your life may depend on it someday.
Warning: Whenever you are inspecting or working
on brakes, remember, brake pads usually contain asbestos fibers. It's
a good idea to wear some sort of breathing protection. Even a cheap
paper mask is better than nothing. Also, it's much healthier to use a
small vacuum cleaner to suck up that dust, rather than blow it around
with an air hose. Unlike brake pads, you can't put in a new pair of
lungs when the originals wear out!

I am not going to post a "how to do your own brake job" page on my web site. Brakes are too important to be done by an inexperienced mechanic. With most maintenance items on your Nighthawk, if you make a mistake, chances are you will just suffer stress and anger when your bike fails to start, or runs rough, or strands you somewhere. If you screw up a brake job, it might get you killed! If you want to do your own brake job (and don't get me wrong, many owners do), then get a Honda Common Service Manual, and a good maintenance manual for your bike, either from Clymer, or Honda. Study the job carefully, get the proper tools, and ask questions if you are unsure. Do not attempt to ride your bike until you are 100% sure you have done everything correctly. It's your life!
