Hullo Short Breakers!

If you receive the e-mail version of Short Break, then you are well aware that the original publication date of SB50 pre-dates the '99 holiday season. Much of the content of that mailing was holiday specific and it makes no sense to re-publish it here, now. For that reason, the web version of SB50 displays greater differences from the original publication than it otherwise might. Nonetheless...we hope you enjoy!
Dick!

Hi Everyone!

I hope this finds you healthy. It's been months since I have put together a real Short Break, so let me bring you up to speed. A quick click will answer some questions about what I do with my time.

I've been getting more focused on providing information that readers will find value in. This might include computer virus info, useful sites I've found on the internet, personal experience online, as well as the funny and touching stories and jokes you are familiar with. You can help contribute by sending me your own favorite sites, and personal stories about online shopping, good deals, bad deals, whatever you think might be of value to others. Right now many online stores are offering $$ off on your first order. I just got my $20 free at MotherNature.com. I also got free shipping because my order came to over $50 (actually, the real cost was just over $30 because of my $20 discount). I recommend ordering the kinds of things you would normally pick up for yourself, and not go overboard. My order was delivered on my doorstep within a few days. Yeah, even out here in the Northwest.

Which brings me to another thought I've been pondering. I have absolutely no doubt that shopping online is going to continue to gain momentum, and someday might even replace many types of stores. Warehouses will be big, and the delivery business will be huge. With more and more families that consist of a single parent, or two parents who work outside the home, who will choose to go out shopping? Teenagers, will, for sure, because shopping is a social event for them; but for the rest of us, we'll get over our fear of using our credit cards online, and go with it. That's my prediction. I wonder, though, who will be home when the delivery truck pulls up? Who is going to safeguard our stuff on the porch?

As you probably have heard, Encyclopedia Brittanica is now online. I just think that is HOT. Try it, it's FREE!

Enjoy your Break,
Pam
