E172 LOURANY (RENIE) PENCE was born in 1858 in Breathitt County, Kentucky; married David Marshall about 1878, probably in Wolfe County, but see LOU ELLEN, E17B.

E173 SIRENA (IRENE) PENCE was born 1859 in Breathitt County, Kentucky; married Elsberry (Perry) Noble; she apparently is the "Babe," age 1, in the 1860 census along with John M. Pence, age 1; in 1870 she is age 12 and John M. Is age 11; see next.

John Brown (Johann Braun) in the Shenandoah Valley early in the 1800s, as cited in Wayland's Virginia Valley Records); he seems to be the one called Jacob Jr. in Montgomery County in 1810 (one male under 10, one over 45[?], three females 16-26, one over 45[?]), to Hardin County about 1819-1820; the family lived at Big Clifty near the Grayson-Hardin County border. The Pences of Georgia

Absolom Pence and his brother Abraham were the first white settlers in the Mountaintown district of Gilmer County, Georgia, apparently having gone to Georgia by 1822, for all of Absolom's children were said to have been born there. Absolom, Abraham, John and Elizabeth (probably their mother) were all in Habersham County, Georgia, in 1830. In 1840, all except John were in Gilmer County. Note that Cherokee County was formed partly from Habersham County in 1831 and the next year Gilmer County was formed from Cherokee County, indicating these families may not have moved after 1830 - the county lines did. Abraham Pence, the father of Abraham, Absolom and John, died in Haywood Co, NC, late in 1827. He probably is the same person as the Abraham Pence, born between 1765 and 1784, who was in the Pendleton District of South Carolina in 1810 (now Pickens County, South Carolina). One correspondent says Abraham (Jr.) was born in South Carolina and married in North Carolina. Abraham (Sr.) was issued a deed in Buncombe Co, NC, in 1815, indicating his move to North Carolina by then. There is also supposedly a land record for Absolom in Buncombe County. This family was particularly hard hit as a result of the Civil War. Fourteen of the grandsons of Abraham (Sr.) fought in the Confederate Army and at least five of them were killed in action or died of disease (no record on one other).

The Children of Peter Pence [1]

    Lycoming County, PA

J PETER PENCE was born in 1732, supposedly in Cocalico Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, but there appears to be no reason for such a supposition and it is likely based on a false assumption about parentage; he died after 25 Apr 1812 (the date he signed his will) in Lycoming County; married (1) _____ _____ (name unknown, who was supposedly killed by Indians along with some children, their names also unknown), (2) Mary _____ about 1772; said to have been in the Revolutionary War from Northumberland County, Pennsylvania; there are numerous articles on Peter Pence, Revolutionary War veteran and "Indian Fighter," but it is unclear whether the veteran and Indian fighter was this man or another Peter Pence, as there were several Peter Pences in Pennsylvania at this time.
