Dear Good Doctor,
My work environment has me feeling like Dilbert. My boss demands
more and more productivity, while giving me fewer resources, for ever
more complex projects! Would it be alright for me to tell the pointy
haired freak off, or should I come to work tomorrow with an AK-47
and make like a postal worker?
the doctor's reply:
Pointy haired freaks, like most incompetent bosses, have a
notoriously low capacity for being told off. Better polish up that
resume before you do so. Better yet, get another job first,
preferably a higher paying one. Then you can laugh in his face, and
tell him what you think of him. And inform him about that fantastic
night you had with his 17 year old daughter at the Ramada Inn. As
for the AK-47 bit, the Doctor advises you to hold off at this point
in time. While in a truly just and civilized society there would
probably be an actual bounty on the head of many of today's managers
and bosses, we are not yet that advanced. I can see a time when just
because someone is your supervisor or boss, that won't give him or
her the right to steal your ideas, crap on your aspirations, chew YOU
out just because THEY are having a bad day, and generally turn your
life into dung just because they can. I have that dream. I may not
get there with you. But until that day, always remember that famous
song from the 80s: "Take this job and shove it!"
