Welcome to the (present/future) home of Atom's unofficial Audity 2000 page

AuDity Links

Audity 2000 at emu.com the people who made the Audity, and many other synths, samplers and other music equipment.

Audity 2000 list at onelist.com, I mean Yahoo!groups join the list, talk to, and get help from other A2k users.

Visit Synthmuseum and check out the original Audity modular synthesizer, which was designed in the 70's, and would have cost you around $50,000 (had you been an ex-member of Tangerine Dream who had commisioned the only one of these ever built). The Emulator Archive also has a lot of info on the original Audity.

Industry's synthesis page has a well-written overview/review of the Audity and a general primer on how to use it make interesting sounds.

Emagic make SoundDiver, a software that will allow you to edit patches for "over 500 synths" including the Audity.

A really good E-Mu page is the Emulator Archive and their specific Audity page.
Also sonicstate's synthsite, an all around great resource for info on almost every synthesizer and user feedback on most.

Audity 2000 patchlist for OMS 28k (mac) courtesy of Jeff Iwahori (Revised) ... if you use Cubase, Logic or any other sequencer and OMS, this will save you alot of time when dialing up the presets on your Audity.

Audity 2k w/ Xtreme Expansion ROM for OMS 40k (mac) the Extreme! patches were added and organized by Mladen Milicevic. Note that you need Version 2.0 or higher OS on your Audity, and of course, the Xtreme ROM.

Cakewalk Panels for the Audity 2000 (*this is a link to another page) by Philippe Gervais, on his Music Machines! page. O.S. Versions 1.0 and 2.0, one for Effects, and a "Quick Access" panel for the front knobs. Also, panels for the Roland Juno 106 and D110, and the Akai S2000 Sampler.

The Proteus 2000 Site also has a cakewalk panel download for both the Audity and Proteus 2000 Jeff has put together a good P2K site which every Proteus user should definitely visit.

If someone writes patches, an instrument list for freemidi, the PC, cakewalk, Cubase mixermaps or drivers (or any other small A2k related files) I will be happy to post them here. Atom

what is the audity 2000?
"a unique 64 voice synthesizer that offers you revolutionary new rhythm generation technologies to make your music move like never before. Audity 2000 allows you to play up to 16 arpeggiators simultaneously with dead-on timing (on separate MIDI channels), tweak the amazing 12-pole filters and synthesis parameters with the real-time knobs, and build brash, new sounds for an experience like no other. Not for the meek! " (from e-mu.)

unique
the audity contains a lot of patches (sounds) that appeal to those who like that "digital" sound, and some with a more synthetic yet analog character. (There are some nice pads on there too.) It's not what I'd call a "bread and butter" machine (check out the fabulous
Proteus 2000) though there are quite a few sounds of a wide variety. The Audity is a synthesizer that sounds like a synth. The audity has 16 completely programmable arpeggiators that can all be used simultaneously (I've never tried it though.) It also has a built in FX processor, 4 extra outputs for external mixing/FX processing (totaling 6 or 3 stereo), and a S/PDIF digital out as standard.

expand
the Xtreme expansion ROM adds 16 MB of sounds from the original Planet Phat and Orbit sound modules. The upgrade adds some great sounds from these classic modules and a lot more drum kits. Xtreme upgrade is available from E-Mu, and it is necessary to have the Version 2.0 OS installed for this upgrade, which can also be gotten from E-mu. As far as I know, the OS upgrade is free, but you must send your Audity to them. It is a ROM upgrade that cannot be downloaded. Version 2.0 expands the polyphony (voices) to 64 and adds many other desirable features, such as a much easier way to find your favorite patches, multi setups, and the clever "Randomize Preset" function.

a new classic?
The Audity has been discontinued by E-mu, in favor of their new XL-1 "Xtreme Lead" module. The XL-1 contains the same soundset (sampled waveforms) as an Audity with the Xtreme expansion, however apparently many of the patches are different. Emulator Archive says about the XL-1: "an amazing 1210 sampled waveforms are contained in this module. This is the complete 16MB set of samples from the Audity 2000, plus the 16MB of samples from the Audity Extreme Sound ROM (from the Phatt and Orbit modules). Some of the presets are the same as the Audity 2000, some are different." Other differences include the XL-1's SuperBeats Mode, and less the extra outputs of the Audity, although it may be expanded to have the additional outputs and 128 voices. Some may find the Audity's sounds better than the XL-1. Most will find it a bargain, and a powerful synth especially if you like to program your own sounds. Regardless, it's in a class by itself – and by no means obsolete.
