We stayed at the Atlantic Hotel in quaint Berlin, Maryland - about 15
miles inland from Assateague. It was a lovely town and you can see a few
photos of Main Street below.
Also, there are a few pictures of the Assateague marshland. Assateague
is a long, thin barrier island and on the west side there is a shallow sound.
Here there are marshes and small rainwater-filled fresh water ponds where
the ponies and native midget-deer can drink.
Finally, there are three photos of a man and his young daughter who were
collecting muscles. The tide was just beginning to leave and the shoreline
was teeming with muscles. The water is only a few feet deep, so with the
little girl on his back, dad set off to collect his pasta-mates for the
evening meal. He had a floating net tethered to the back of his wading
