Our Assateague Weekend

On March 7, 2003, we took a much needed three-day weekend to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Leaving work and snow behind, we headed east toward the Ocean City area.

We had no interest in Ocean City - even off-season, it is too commercial and developed for our tastes. Instead we stayed in the beautiful town of Berlin, Maryland. Their claim to fame is being the film location of the Runaway Bride - starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere and of the movie Tuck Everlasting. There are photos links below.

From home, it's about a 125 mile trip to Berlin. We arrived at the Atlantic Hotel Friday evening. We had a nice dinner and prepared ourselves for the next day. Saturday was clear and sunny, but a brisk wind from the north kept temperatures in the upper 40's. We spent the morning visiting nice antique shops that line Main Street, including lunch at a very nice gallery/cafe - the Globe Theater . We went to Assateague Saturday afternoon for a walk on the beach.

Sunday was warm and sunny. Back to the beach of course. We both had some sun, much snow-relief and a perfectly relaxing weekend.
