Celebrity Cruises Quilt Series #3

for the M/V Century

Design Features:

Zenith and Horizon (single scale) below embroidered name of the Century.

Century (twice scale) in the center of the ship group.

Meridian (single scale) below the Century.

Modified version of the standard Blessing for a ship, embroidered above the

Celebrity Cruises Chi logo. The Blessing is modified to read "Bless This Ship And

All Who Sail Her" (instead of "in her") since the quilt is for the Master's Cabin--

the man who literally sails the vessel.

Galaxy and Mercury (single scale) below the logo. These ships are not in the main

ship group since they had not been built at the time that the Century came out for

her inaugural season.

All of the embroidery of the words on this quilt was done in crocheting thread, which

took almost 10 months to sew. Knitting yarn has been substituted to speed up the

process of sewing the words onto subsequent quilts in the series.

This quilt was mailed to Captain Iakovos Korres, then Commodore of the Fleet and

Master of the Century in February 1996. The photograph above was taken the night

before the quilt was mailed, and is therefore of very poor quality. But, it is all that

remains of this quilt, which has now been lost. Attempts to find out where it is have

all failed.
